C_24 Optimist

The optical shop C_29 / ’Optimist’, is an interwar listed building of a total surface 90m2 and  is in the centre of Chalkida. The main design aspect was the creation of a gradient technique in the texture of materiality to emphasize the reflection and the absorbance of light. This gradient tool continues to exist and plays a significant role even to the choice of materials, resulting in their sound existence or their theoretical absence in the formed space. Some utilitarian objects are transformed
into prismatic sculptures. The optical shop C_29 / Optimist got a special mention in Architizer A + Awards 2016.

All light fixtures use high quality Led bulbs, in order to achieve energy savings and the best lighting output. Main lighting achieved with spot lights.
Falkland suspension lamp by Bruno Munari for Danese Milano and Wireflow suspension lamp by Vibia in the internal backyard are the eye-catching luminaires in the whole area.

All furniture is by Kartell. Mobil container on wheels in cobalt blue by Antonio Citterio, Invisible table by Tokujin Yoshioka, La Marie chair and One More Please stool by Philippe Starck. In the middle of the area placed the unique Chummy Frizzy sofa by Maurizio Galante for Opinion Ciatti.

Architectural design: 314 Architecture Studio
Studio 314 was founded by Pavlos Chatziangelidis in 2004. The name ‘314’ of the studio, is inspired from the mathematic symbol π = 3,14 that is used to count the diameter of the circle. This reference is related to the philosophical dimension of the concept of the circle. The basic characteristic of the design beside the ecological, social and programmatic aspects of the projects, is the creation of a shellthat urges the user to experience an abstraction.
Each one of the studio`s projects has its own unique character and it’s not following a typical design pattern. This is the result of the studios’ design process that is based on experimenting and improvising through new ideas,
concepts and practices.Works of the studio have been presented in many Architecture exhibitions and have been published in world’s most popular books,
magazines and websites. Our H_3 project has been filmed on documentary for Argentina and Qatar television.
